The blue flag flies on the main beach of San Sebastián de La Gomera from this Wednesday. A distinction that reaches the municipality, for the first time in its history, thanks to the fulfillment of a series of quality requirements in matters such as the state of bathing waters, the information that is offered on the environmental aspects of the enclave or the facilities that are made available to users.
The act of hoisting the flag, which was held in front of the coastal promenade, was attended by municipal and island authorities accompanied by Town Hall staff and lifeguards.
The mayor of San Sebastián de La Gomera, Adasat Reyes, stressed that this initiative “was one of the main objectives that had been drawn by the Municipal Government Group and that it rewards the work done in the last year to improve the quality of the beaches of the capital from the point of view of accessibility, tourism and sustainability.”
Playa de La Cueva is the next objective that has been fixed by the Corporation
Likewise, the local mayor emphasized the effort that has been made this year to increase users’ safety, “expanding the number of lifeguards to eight, who this year will be present not only on the Playa de San Sebastián and La Punta but, for the first time, on the Playa de La Cueva.”
Precisely, Reyes referred to the Playa de La Cueva when advancing that “it is the next objective that has been fixed by the Corporation and where we will work intensely to opt for a second blue flag.” To this end, he announced that work will soon begin on improving access and providing it with the necessary services to offer bathers the quality standards that are required.
Finally, the mayor thanked the “effort of all the technicians of the Town Council who have worked hard so that this summer the residents of San Sebastián de La Gomera have, finally, a blue flag waving on their beaches.” In addition, with the hoisting the Town Council introduced a new signage of its beaches that indicates, among other essential aspects, the rules of use, environmental information and the explanation about the Blue Flag program.
