The bus station of Vallehermoso hosted on Tuesday the inauguration of the new route of GuaguaGomera SAU between this municipality and Valle Gran Rey. This line, promoted by the Island Council of La Gomera, allows the mobility of 720 weekly passengers between both locations, strengthening the cohesion and transit of residents and tourists between the north and south of the island.
The Council’s chairman, Casimiro Curbelo, stressed that with this new opening the insular ring of communication for the transport of passengers by roads is closed, allowing to travel the whole of the insular geography with the routes offered by the public bus company. “It is another step in this line of work to promote the use of public transport and facilitate internal mobility, while contributing to greater cohesion of the island”, he said.
In this sense, he stressed the importance of implementing this line, given the increase in economic and tourism activity in both locations, as well as the incorporation of the two shipping companies in the operation of the Puerto de Vueltas. “This route allows the use of the services provided in these municipalities, while allowing the mobility of tourists who trek throughout the northwest region of the island”.
Curbelo explained that the new route has 6 daily departures, from Monday to Saturday, and 4 departures on Sundays and holidays. “There are 40 weekly rotations that begin at 6.30 am, departing from Vallehermoso and ending at 6.30 pm, with the last departure from Valle Gran Rey”, he said.
As for the rates, he said that they range from 1 euro for the shortest journeys to 4 euros, for passengers who complete the full route between the two municipalities. The planned itinerary departs from the bus station of Vallehermoso and goes through the network of stops of the GM-1 until its arrival at the bus station of Valle Gran Rey.
As for the vehicles that make the journeys, the counselor of Transport, Pedro Manuel Morales, said that initially the service will start with buses of 18 seats, but “these vehicles may be replaced by others of 28 and 35 seats according to the demand generated by the itinerary”. Also, he indicated that predictions point to the summer season being the one in which more passengers make use of the service.
The mayors of Vallehermoso and Valle Gran Rey, Emiliano Coello and Ángel Piñero, showed their satisfaction for the new services, by enabling the connection of two bordering municipalities, recalling that the nonexistence of this line meant that passengers had to spend almost 4 hours to connect with San Sebastián and from there depart to any of the two locations.
